For Parents

At Campus Outreach, it is our desire to come alongside you in your student's spiritual growth and development. We love college students, specifically your student, and we aim to create a summer option that enables your son or daughter to develop not only spiritually but relationally, financially, and in all other walks of life. We want you to be excited your student is attending the Summer Project, so if you have any questions, thoughts, or feedback we would love to hear from you!

We thank you for your commitment to your student. We believe that the Bible is clear that a son or daughter is to honor his or her parents; therefore, we ask all students to have a discussion over the Summer Project with his or her parents.

FAQs

The Alpha Project in Hilton Head, SC is a three-week opportunity for any Charleston area student wanting to grow in their faith. During the Alpha Project, students will participate in Bible studies, discipleship groups, ministry training, and other activities throughout the week. The goal of the Alpha Project is to create an environment for students to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ as well as develop ministry skills and leadership qualities.

The Alpha+ is an additional 4-5 week cross-cultural project in Accra, Ghana directly following the three-week Alpha Project. We believe that this total seven-week summer opportunity will allow a student to gain vision for cross-cultural ministry, as well as a space to start practicing the skills they learned at the Alpha Project. Students who attend the Alpha+ are likely men and women who are established in their faith and desire to share their faith with others.

Campus Outreach Charleston is a ministry to college students in the Charleston area. Campus Outreach Charleston was founded under the supervision of East Cooper Baptist Church with the vision to build laborers on the campus for the lost world to the glory of God. Through evangelism and discipleship, we passionately reach students with the Gospel and train them to be mature followers of Christ with a commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. Our desire is to see students leave college passionate about Christ and equipped to labor in the harvest fields for a lifetime!

Students from The College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, The Citadel, Charleston Southern, and Trident Tech.

Originally called the Summer Training Project, Leadership Project has been in the Myrtle Beach area since 1997, and the first summer project sponsored by Campus Outreach was in 1983. Each Campus Outreach region, including Charleston, hosts a summer project for students in different cities across the country as well as short-term projects internationally.

The Campus Outreach staff take the safety of your son or daughter seriously. Whether they are at the stateside Alpha Project or cross cultural Alpha+ , there are several policies designed to safeguard participants. There is also a curfew each night to ensure students are not out too late: 11pm during the week and 12am on weekends.

Campus Outreach staff work with each student to coordinate traveling accommodations. Each student is welcome to bring his or her car if they would like. Students with cars will carpool to work and other desired destinations. Because of this courtesy, we ask the students without cars to help with gas throughout the summer.

If you are attending the Alpha+, you will be flying to the project’s destination (flights booked by Campus Outreach staff).

For the Alpha Project, Campus Outreach rents houses that act as our project grounds each summer. There are typically 2-6 students sharing a room (depending on the room layout). Each room has a bed space for each student to sleep, a shared bathroom, and other accommodations necessary for living.

Support raising is asking individuals, families, and churches to invest in a student for their summer experience of growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Support raising helps offset the expenses of the project. Raising support can be a great way to cover the costs of the project as well as a great way to let others participate in your student’s summer experience of growing in their walk with the Lord.

The cost of the Alpha Project is $1,750. This price includes rent, two project meals per week, social events, and other program costs for the project. Each student will also be given a $225 to assist with meal costs ($75/week)

The cost of the Alpha+ includes lodging, airfare, means, social events, and program costs.

The Summer Project opportunities are the most intentional opportunity Campus Outreach Charleston provides for students who are interested in growing deeply in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We intentionally train students in how to study the Bible; how to talk about their faith with friends, family, and peers; how to be a leader; and how to create and manage a personal budget, along with other practical skills. There is no other time in a student’s life where they get to live and invest in peer relationships like these opportunities.

Yes, parents are always welcome to visit their students, assuming it does not interfere with the goals of the Alpha Project in Hilton Head, SC.

Most importantly, you can pray for them.

  • For a sincere love for Christ. (Ephesians 3:14-19, Philippians 1:9-11)
  • That they would grow as Christ’s disciple and shine as a light in the world. (Romans 12:2, 1 John 2:15-16)
  • That they would grow in Christ’s likeness in love, faith, and good works. (John 13:34-35, Romans 4:20-21)
